SABRES ACQUIRE McBAIN, PICK FOR SEKERA

The Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres traded defensemen Sunday afternoon, with Carolina sending Jamie McBain and the No. 35 pick in the 2013 NHL Draft to Buffalo for Andrej Sekera.

McBain, 25, struggled at times in 2012-13 and was rumored to be on the move at the NHL Trade Deadline. He had one goal and eight points in 40 games.

Sekera, 27, had two goals and 12 points in a season that was derailed at times by injury.

The Sabres selected J.T. Compher, a member of the U.S. National Team, with the No. 35 pick.
