SABRES RECALL LIEUWEN FROM ROCHESTER
Goaltender joins Buffalo for first career NHL recall
The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has recalled goaltender Nathan Lieuwen from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an emergency basis. Lieuwen will wear number 50 when Buffalo hosts Montreal tonight at First Niagara Center.
Lieuwen (8/8/91, 6'5", 186 lbs) joins the Sabres for his first career recall since being drafted by Buffalo in the sixth round (167th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. The 22-year-old Lieuwen has a record of 17-11-2 in 32 games with the Amerks this season, including a pair of shutouts. Lieuwen is also among the AHL leaders in both save% (.922) and GAA (2.34).
Lieuwen spent the majority of his first pro season in 2012-13 playing with the ECHL's Greenville Road Warriors, where he finished 14-10-2 in 27 games. Lieuwen also saw action in four games for Rochester last season, going 1-2-0 with one shutout.
The Abbotsford, BC-native signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Sabres back on May 5, 2012.
