McCABE NAMED TO TEAM USA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROSTER
Joe Sacco and Tim Macre will join McCabe in Belarus
Rookie defenseman Jake McCabe was one of 15 players named to the 2014 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete at the IIHF World Championship from May 9-25 in Minsk, Belarus. Also joining McCabe on Team USA are Sabres assistant coach Joe Sacco and athletic trainer Tim Macre.
McCabe picked up one assist in seven games with the Sabres, after signing his three-year, entry-level contract on April 2. The 20-year-old native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, was Buffalo's second-round pick (44th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft. McCabe recently completed his junior season with the University of Wisconsin (Big Ten), earning first-team All-Big Ten honors by registering a career-high 25 points (8+17) through 33 games and serving as the team’s assistant captain in 2013-14. His point total was fifth-best for the Badgers, who captured the Big Ten conference tournament championship, and fourth-best among defensemen in the Big Ten. In 2013, he served as captain of Team USA at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia, where the United States took home the gold medal.
The United States squad will open the tourney on May 9 against the host team from Belarus.
