The Buffalo Sabres are back in action tonight for their third preseason game, following a come-from-behind 3-1 victory in Detroit on Saturday.

Ryan Miller backstopped the Sabres to the win with 42 saves, including 16 in the 3rd period.

Buffalo scored all three goals against Detroit in the third period, and have now scored all six of their goals this preseason in the final frame.  Derek Roy, Paul Gaustad and Jason Pominville provided the scoring.

Pominville is tied for the team lead with two points (1+1), and has taken a team-high seven shots. Rookie defenseman Tyler Myers is averaging almost 19 minutes of ice time through two games

The Sabres are one of six teams that have yet to lose in regulation this preseason.

This is the second meeting of the pre-season between the Sabres and Capitals… Washington defeated Buffalo 4-3 in OT last Thursday, with Brian Pothier netting the game winner while the Caps were playing 5-on-3 in the extra frame.

Buffalo’s next game is on Wednesday when the Toronto Maple Leafs pay a visit to HSBC Arena (7 p.m.)  

The Sabres are 130-145-48 all-time in the preseason… Buffalo is 17-9-2 in preseason action since the start of the 2005-06 season.

INJURIES: Defenseman Steve Montador (shoulder stinger) was held out of practice for a few days as a precaution; Matt Generous (lacerated ligament) will be out one month; Center Adam Mair is still unavailable to play recovering from an off-season hip surgery, however has begun to skate on his own.

The Washington Capitals' 2008-09 season was capped by an Eastern Conference Semi Finals appearance against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Although the Caps lost in seven games to the Stanley Cup Champions in seven games, the playoff run marked their most successful campaign since 1998. 

Alexander Ovechkin captured the Hart Trophy for his performance in the regular season. Ovechkin led the league with 56 goals and was second with 110 points.
