THE SABRES FOUNDATION

History

The Buffalo Sabres Foundation is a New York State not for profit corporation, qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and qualified as a public charity. The Buffalo Sabres Foundation was established in 1995 and reinvigorated in 2004 following the acquisition of the Buffalo Sabres by owner B. Thomas Golisano.

Mission
The Buffalo Sabres Foundation is committed to enhancing the quality of life in the Western New York region. In that process, the Buffalo Sabres Foundation strives to assist worthwhile organizations that make this region a better place to live and work.

The Buffalo Sabres Foundation has chosen to make its primary focus to (1) assist youth hockey initiatives, (2) support children’s health and wellness initiatives, specifically those that serve the underprivileged and handicapped, and (3) provide support to non-profit organizations that provide vital services to those in need in our community.

Activities
The Buffalo Sabres Foundation has been involved in a number of fundraising and community activities since 2004, most notably its annual Corporate Challenge Hockey Tournament and its Aces and Blades Gala. Since 2004 the Buffalo Sabres Foundation has raised over $250,000 through these and other activities.

Grants
Since 2004, the Buffalo Sabres Foundation has made numerous grants, totaling over $200,000, to worthwhile western New York organizations.

These included a $100,000 gift to Buffalo’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital in 2005 and, in 2006, a $30,000 grant to Hasek’s Heros and a $15,000 grant to SABAH. A listing of selected grant recipients is set forth below:

Grant Procedure
In order to receive consideration for a grant, an organization must be eligible and must submit a grant application. Eligibility: grant recipients must be a 501(c)(3) organization that serves the western New York region, must be consistent with the mission of the Foundation and must submit a completed grant application.
