TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS VS BUFFALO SABRES
Saturday, 09.25.2010 / 7:00 PM
Head Coach Lindy Ruff is using a veteran core for Buffalo's 2010 preseason debut at HSBC Arena, as the Sabres prepare to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Only a few new faces will make an appearance in the contest - including Luke Adam
, Drew Schiestel
and Zack Kassian. Other debuts will come from veterans Rob Niedermayer
and Shaone Morrisonn
Morrisonn will likely play alongside Tyler Myers
on the blueline. It's been a tandem Ruff has put together during practice, and one he is intrigued to take a look at in game action.
"We'd like to give that a look to see if it could work the same way the Tallinder-Myers [pairing worked]," Ruff said. "I think it can but we have nothing etched in stone. I think we'll base it from game to game."
UPDATE 11:27 AM :
Captain Craig Rivet
is unavailable for the contest. The defenseman left practice prematurely on Friday and did not return to the ice. Ruff updated the blueliner's status this morning, saying that Rivet suffered a "throat contusion."
"I don't know how it exactly happened, but his throat started to swell up," Ruff said. "He saw a specialist last night that said he'll need two days of rest before he starts exercising."
Buffalo' pregame activities will be will begin at 4:30 p.m. as the Sabres roll out the red carpet. Fans will be able to welcome back their favorite players as they enter HSBC Arena. Kevin Sylvester will host the event along with Janet Snyder from Kiss 98.5. The evening will also include live music from McCarthyizm, and food and drink will be available for purchase.

According to NHL.com, "General Manager Brian Burke didn't make drastic changes to the roster that finished last season 29th overall, but the brash Leafs' boss was able to land feisty winger Kris Versteeg via trade from the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks as well as free-agent forwards Colby Armstrong, Clarke MacArthur and Mike Brown along with former Red Wings defenseman Brett Lebda."
