GAME RECAP
With both teams struggling to stay in the playoff run, the Sabres and Flyers produced more penalty minutes than offensive chances in a slow but hostile afternoon game at First Niagara Center. But after two scoreless periods, Buffalo managed to get the only goal of the game and stay in front of Philadelphia in the conference with a 1-0 win, keeping the hopes of a postseason alive.

Christian Ehrhoff’s goal 17 seconds into the third period proved to be the game winner with helpers from Kevin Porter and Steve Ott. Ehrhoff’s shot from the point took a bounce off the boards from behind the net and squeezed in between Steve Mason’s pad and the post for the lone goal of the game. He leads all Sabres defensemen in goals (5), assists (13), points (18) and shots (94).

Jhonas Enroth got the start in net for the Sabres and made 29 saves to earn the shutout. With less than a minute to go in the game, Enroth made a sprawling save after a scramble in front of the net to preserve the win. It was Buffalo’s first shutout of the season and Enroth’s first since denying Carolina on Nov. 18, 2011.

The Sabres are now 17-19-6 and remain in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, four points out of the eighth and final playoff spot. With the win, they stay one spot ahead of the Flyers with a three-point gap.

The Sabres have one more game to finish out their three-game homestand. Tampa Bay will visit First Niagara Center on Sunday for a 5 p.m. faceoff. It is Buffalo’s eighth of nine sets of back-to-back games this season. They are 4-2-2 in the first game and 1-5-1 in the second.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS
With his assist today, Kevin Porter has a three-game point streak and has six points in his last six games (3+3)... Christian Ehrhoff’s fifth goal of the season ended a six-game pointless streak... Jhonas Enroth made 29 saves for his third career shutout and first since Nov. 18, 2011... Today was the third and final meeting between Buffalo and Philadelphia this season and the 160th game all-time; the Sabres are 63-75-23 against the Flyers (40-29-10 at home)

ROSTER NOTES
Chad Ruhwedel
made his NHL debut after being signed to a two-year entry-level contract with the Sabres. The 22-year defenseman had spent the last three seasons with the UMass-Lowell River Hawks, but left school one year early following their semifinal loss in the Frozen Four on Thursday... Luke Adam was a healthy scratch for Buffalo.
